I hate Medical Insurance Companies
March 12, 2008I had to take my son to the emergency room last Friday night. He was congested, wheezing, holding his chest, crying, and just feeling pretty lousy. So, off we were to the hospital, with no other real alternative with the doctor’s office being closed until Monday.
A few hours, tests, and an x-ray later we were headed home with a prescription and inhaler. He still felt pretty bad but he was much better than when we got there.
Before we had even left for the emergency room I knew we were about to have another thousand dollar hospital bill that the insurance would not cover. Since the birth of my first child one thing has been a constant, doctor’s and hospital bills do not get paid by the insurance company. The only bill that actually got paid was when i was on state insurance for the birth of my youngest son.
Immunizations, they should be paid, right? Nope, they don’t cover preventive care. They also don’t cover diagnostic x-rays, such as a chest x-ray to check for pneumonia. Seems they also don’t cover blood work for a 4 year old boy who a doctor has just told you may have cancer. What parent is going to deny tests on a child that may possibly have cancer? And what is insurance for if they won’t even pay for tests for a child that may have cancer?
With three young boys, I’d be better off to get a minimum wage job, get state insurance, and let them foot the bill.
